Merkinch Community Centre hosts
International Women's Day
7th March 2009
A large group of women from various
cultural backgrounds displayed their skills and talents at this memorable
event.
Throughout the day there were ongoing performances of music and dance, demonstrations of spinning, willow craft, cheese making, massage, hair braiding, quilting, various crafts, wholefoods, traidcraft, life coaching and much more.
Women
had prepared various foods and
attenders had the opportunity to taste food from different parts of the
world, while contributions were given to Oxfam in return for food
tasting. A laughter
workshop produced great amusement and enjoyment while the Oxfam
workshop
provided some valuable insight into their international work.

It was estimated that about 300
people attended the event and folks lingered at the end which had the
strong feeling of connectedness.......
Frances Powell from the Women at Work (WEA) Project said "It was the best venue they had held this event in and would certainly be back!"
